What is The Smart Word?
A bi-monthly eZine (electronic magazine), The Smart Word is designed to keep English and curriculum literacy teachers up to date with relevant news, research and theory, reviews, and practical teaching tips.
Keeping up to date with everything that’s happening can be time consuming and difficult. The Smart Word (along with this website) aims to do much of the hard work for you and make your life easier.

We plan to address the following topics in future issues. Remember, if there are particular topics you would like to see covered or answers found to your English and literacy questions, let us know.

Why an eZine?
The electronic format allows us to:
- produce an appealing, full colour publication at a reasonable cost.
- Distribute the eZine cost effectively.
- Provide direct hyperlinks for those wanting greater depth or easy access to further resources.
- Contribute to environmentally sustainable practices.
For the reader, this means:
- The flexibility to view the document on-line or to print a hard copy.
- A more economical subscription rate.
- Ease of use.
For an extra $AUS22 a year, a hard copy will be provided, if requested.
What does it cost?
Individual subscription:
$AUS55 per calendar year (incl. 10% GST). Add $AUS22 if a hard copy is requested.
Student subscription:
$AUS33 per calendar year (incl. 10% GST). A copy of your student ID card will be required; this can be posted, or scanned and emailed. Add $AUS22 if a hard copy is requested.
Institutional subscription:
$AUS77 per calendar year (incl. 10% GST). Add $AUS22 if a hard copy is requested.
The cost reflects something of the work and time required to research, collate and publish the contents of the eZine.
How to subscribe
- Complete the electronic form below. No money is required at this time.
- Once your order is received, you will be sent a tax invoice containing banking details for electronic transfer of funds.
- Upon confirmation that payment of the tax invoice has been received, you will receive a tax receipt and bi-monthly newsletters. Late subscribers will receive all eZines missed so far in that calendar year.
